Inspired by one of Aotearoa's most recognisable native birds, the Pīwakawaka Black Women's Crew brings together contemporary streetwear, Māori storytelling and understated detail.
The pīwakawaka is known for its constant movement, distinctive fanned tail and energetic presence throughout the ngahere. It also holds a special place within Māori pūrākau, carrying stories and connections that reach well beyond the bird itself.
Our original Cravass pīwakawaka artwork has been created with this connection to the ngahere, movement, and Māori storytelling in mind.
Embroidered locally in Tauranga, the design is finished in subtle black-on-black embroidery across the chest. From a distance, the artwork sits quietly within the garment. Up close, the detail and texture of the embroidery reveal the pīwakawaka.
